  At one time there were only a few Chinese restaurants in Evanston. Luckily with the booming Asian population ( mostly students and faculty from Northwestern ) many a fine Asian restaurant have opened. Of these Koi is by far the best. The flavors and freshness of each dish will explode in your mouth. You’ll walk away satisfied and ready to take on the world.

  I have sampled Koi twice in as many weeks. Being a former chef I am more critical than most. Koi is a comfortable place, with nice ambiance. They were happy to prepare vegetarian for my in laws. This second time was disappointing in its service as well as its food, as both my wife and I became sick the rest of the night. I’ll spare the details. I do enjoy hot and spicy food , but the amount of hot dried peppers was way too much for anyone. I stopped counting after twenty peppers were pushed aside. In the beginning of the evening, we sat for at least twenty minutes befor the waiter came to our table. When we were finished our table was not cleared for at least a half hour.
  We were never asked if we wished dessert or an after dinner drink.
  My wife and I have decided to not return to this restaurant, as there are many more restaurants to enjoy in Evanston and around Chicago.
  Sorry for the bad report card, but it was earned.
